Where do skin discolourations come from?

Skin discolouration occurs due to the malfunctioning of melanocytes, i.e. cells that produce melanin (skin pigment). Sometimes there may be too many of them, they are too active and produce too much dye. Importantly, discolouration most often occurs in places most exposed to the sun, i.e. on the face, cleavage, forearms, arms, hands and calves.

Problems with discolouration may also appear in the event of hormonal changes, under the influence of inflammation, when taking certain medications or using cosmetics or perfumes that contain photosensitising substances. Normal discolouration increases with age.

How to effectively get rid of hyperpigmentation?

First of all, it is recommended to consult the problem with a dermatologist, because sometimes discolouration can be a symptom of abnormalities in the body. In some cases, brightening creams may be sufficient. Preparations used in their composition are for example fruit acids and vitamin C, kojic acid, umbeliferone, hydroquinone. In the beauty salon you can also undergo cavitation peeling, thanks to which you can reduce shallow discolouration. A slightly more intense procedure is microdermabrasion, i.e. mechanical peeling. A fractional laser is also recommended for skin discolouration.

Discolouration includes not only dark, but also white spots. Most often they arise under the influence of injuries such as burns (e.g. sunburn), abrasions, wounds and inflammation that contribute to the destruction of melanocytes. Unfortunately, white spots can also mean disease, which is why before applying any remedies, it is worth consulting a problem with a dermatologist beforehand.
