Hyperhidrosis treatment

The problem of hyperhidrosis concerns a large group of people regardless of gender. The ailment most often affects people between 20 and 40 years old irrespective of temperature or physical activity or lack of it. Sweating is often abundant and uncontrolled, it occurs especially in stressful situations, but not only. A characteristic symptom is constantly wet hands or feet, but also armpits or forehead. Hyperhidrosis can lead to serious mental discomfort and even social exclusion. The problem mainly occurs when shaking hands.

Causes of hyperhidrosis

Causes of excessive sweating may appear on a physiological background during physical exertion, stress, eating certain foods or menopause. The ailment can also be caused by disease factors such as hormonal disorders caused by thyroid problems or diabetes, neurological problems as well as viral and bacterial infections as well as some cancers and intoxication can have a negative impact.

Hyperhidrosis treatment

Hyperhidrosis treatment involves injecting small doses of botulinum toxin into areas affected by excessive sweating. The treatment effectively blocks sweat glands for several months. The treatment performed several times can permanently reduce excessive sweat secretion by the glands, which, colloquially speaking, will become accustomed to increased sweat production.

How botulinum toxin works

After injection, botulinum toxin penetrates into the area affected by excessive sweating and temporarily blocks the transmission of impulses between the nerves and sweat glands, thereby blocking the secretion of sweat for several months.

Effects

Blocking sweat production up to 100% in the areas covered by the procedure, which improves mood and self-esteem. The effect is visible after a few days, and depending on the place of treatment, it lasts for about 6-10 months for armpits and 7-8 months for hands. However, the duration of the effect depends on the individual patient. Often the effect lasts for over a year.

The course of the procedure

The procedure is performed at the MEDICOR Clinic of Aesthetic Dermatology and Laser Therapy, where hyperhidrosis treatment is performed by a specialist in aesthetic medicine. Before starting the procedure, the patient should accurately determine the problem sites. Usually accurate indication is difficult, therefore Minora test is carried out, which consists in spreading the product with iodine, and then sprinkling it with potato starch. As a result of the test, the places with excessive sweating darken after a few seconds. Then the specialist divides such places into small squares and then proceeds to the proper part of the procedure, i.e. the injection of a small amount of botulinum toxin into each square.

For most patients, the procedure is described as slightly painful, which is why people who are sensitive to pain get anaesthesia. The procedure usually lasts several minutes, and after it is done you can go back to your activities.
